IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara
Wise
June 20, 1941 – February 2, 2026
Barbara Anne Anderson, 84, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026. She was born on June 20, 1941, in Humboldt, Kansas, to Dorothy Anne Karnahan and William Grant Anderson.
Barbara grew up in a large family with her siblings William Robert, Sharon, John Wayne, Kathy Faye, Mary Francis, and John William. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Lawhon, her father William Grant Anderson, her stepfather Art Lawhon, as well as her brother William Robert.
A hardworking and dedicated woman, Barbara spent much of her life waitressing and bartending. She was known for her warm smile, her quick wit, and the way she made everyone who walked through her doors feel welcome. For most of her later career, she worked at the Town and Country Restaurant in Wichita, Kansas, where she became a familiar and beloved face to regulars and coworkers alike. Her workplace became a second home where she built friendships and touched countless lives with her humor, kindness, and easy conversation.
Outside of work, Barbara found joy in the quiet comfort of books. A devoted reader, she especially loved mystery and thriller novels that kept her guessing. She also loved watching football and was a proud Kansas City Chiefs fan, cheering them on through every season. And no day was complete without a bit of chocolate, her favorite sweet treat and simple pleasure she enjoyed throughout her life. Whether she was immersed in a gripping novel, watching a tense Chiefs game, or savoring a piece of chocolate, Barbara embraced life's small comforts with appreciation and joy.
Barbara was a loving mother to Melvin Wise and Jon Wise, and a proud stepmother to Kelly Piper-Hughes and Scott Piper. Her family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Barbara is survived by her sons, Melvin Wise and Jon Wise, and her daughter‑in‑law, Dee Wise. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Kelly Piper- Hughes and Scott Piper. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Melvin Levi and Sable, her six great‑grandchildren, her sisters, Sharon Hasker, Kathy Bailey, Mary Cochran, her brothers John Wayne Anderson and John William Anderson, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her wit, her generous spirit, her love of mystery and thrilling stories, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Barbara's legacy continues in the hearts of all who knew her.
