Obituary

Services will be live streamed on Traditions Facebook page.

Carolyn Rae Bliss passed from this life and into eternity with Jesus on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the age of 83.  Carolyn was born in Pinckneyville, IL. on August 3, 1937 to Ora and Everett Fisher, 1 of 7 children.  Carolyn married John Bliss on February 2, 1959 and they were married for 37 years until John's passing in 1996.  From this marriage were born Tammy, Johnny and LaNay.

In addition to raising the children, Carolyn worked alongside John as he pastored several churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Mississippi.  John and Carolyn also worked together in the restaurant business for a time, John would cook and Carolyn would wait tables.  Carolyn was very much the iconic pastor's wife and hosted numerous dinners and church functions and always had guests in the home.  She was well known for her spaghetti, beef roast and coconut cream pie among other dishes.  Together John and Carolyn served in the ministry for 32 years and after his passing Carolyn returned to call Sapulpa home.

Carolyn had a God-given love for children, both her own and others.  She was a wonderful Grandma and loved to have the grandchildren stay with her.  Christy and Brad would spend parts of the summer staying with Grandma and Grandpa Bliss.  Carolyn was a nursey worker for many years at Ridgeway Baptist Church and the children just loved her.  Carolyn also babysat for many children over the years and always provided great care for them.

Carolyn always dressed to the nines and loved to match her clothes with just the right jewelry, shoes and purse – even when she didn't feel good she wanted to look good.  She loved getting her hair and nails done.  She also loved decorating her home and had decorations for every holiday and season.  She won awards and considerable notoriety for her décor at her Hickory Crossing apartment where she resided for 15 years.

For many years, Friday's became a special time for Carolyn as she and Tammy and LaNay would go out for lunch and an afternoon of shopping.  They were lovingly dubbed the GG's after the Golden Girls and would laugh and shop and have the best time just being together.  Carolyn also enjoyed going out for dinner and the annual Christmas light tours taken with the family.

Carolyn loved much and laughed often.  She will be missed greatly but we take much comfort knowing she is free of pain and enjoying the splendor of Heaven with Jesus, John and so many family and friends who were awaiting her arrival.  Survivors are children Tammy and Larry O'Neal, Johnny Bliss and LaNay and Todd Cosby.  Also survived by grandchildren Christy O'Neal (Jamie Tate), Bradley O'Neal, Jymmi Hampton (Michael), Erin Williams (Dickie) and Luke Cosby, Great-grandchildren Garrett, Sierra, Spencer, Mia, Kirsten, Hunter, Tyler, Paisley and Jaina, her surviving sibling Barbara and numerous nieces and nephews.  Also mourning her passing are her dear friends Roberta Houston and Barbara Hembree.

The family wishes to express our sincerest gratitude for all those who helped take such good care of our precious Mother and for all the prayers and heartfelt expressions of love, care and concern.  While our hearts are hurting for ourselves, we are thankful that Carolyn's faith in Christ has now become sight.  Therefore, Let not your hearts be troubled…John 14:1-6.
