Obituary

Charles Eugene "Gene" Bernhardt of Sapulpa, went to be with the Lord on July 5th, 2026, at his dwelling (Glenwood Nursing Home) in his peaceful sleep.

Charles was born August 10th, 1940, in Kerrville, Texas to Arno Charles Bernhardt Jr. and Agnes Lucille Bernhardt Schwarz. He graduated from Anchorage High School and was a mechanic working on all types of machinery and vehicles.

Charles was married twice during his lifetime and was blessed with a large and loving family. His first marriage was to JoAnn Bussey, and together they had eight children. He later married Sylvia Sue Bernhardt Avery, and together they had two children. Charles also lovingly welcomed four stepchildren into his family.

Charles and Sue were members of Faith in Grace Church for over 20+ years. He loved talking about hot rods, engines, lifting weights, and Alaska growing up. Oh, and of course Notre Dame Football! He was a part of the jail ministry and spread the word of God to inmates.

Charles will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his family and many dear friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his family his children Charles and Becky Bernhardt, Debra Bernhardt, Loretta Bernhardt Hash, Marita Bernhardt McElroy, John and Ellen Bernhardt, Katrina and Kirk Gresham, Regina and Patrick Notaro, Daniel and Paula Bernhardt, David and Elissa Bernhardt, Debbie and Russell Hampton (stepdaughter child), Vickie and Doyle Traylor (stepdaughter child), Jimmy Holder (stepson child), Kevin and Melanie Holder (stepson child) and 17 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son Christopher Wayne Bernhardt.

Service will be July 8th, 2026, at 10:00am at Faith in Grace Church. 27 Mayfield St. Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
