Obituary

Charles (Charley) Monroe Golden of Foyil, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, determination and love. He had just celebrated his 89th birthday in January. Born on January 19, 1937, in Adair County, Oklahoma, Charles was the youngest son of John and Fannie Golden.

As a young boy, their family of six traveled between Oklahoma and California regularly. Charles had fond memories of his time in California and always joked he was moving back West. His family finally settled in Oklahoma and Charles graduated from Checotah HS in 1955. He spent a short time in the US Army serving as a PFC in Military Intelligence. After his military service, he settled in Oklahoma City and drove a truck for Texaco. In 1964 he began 14 years of marriage to Carleen Gamble and they were overjoyed to have two children, Shana and Duane. The family lived on a small farm West of Tulsa, and it was here that Charles developed a love for cattle, horses and ranching. While managing the farm, Charles attended TU and obtained his real estate license. He joined Synar Land and Cattle Company in the early 1970's, marking the beginning of a sixty-year career in land sales. He had a natural gift for finding land with promise and was always on the lookout for the next big deal. Over the years, he bought and sold land throughout Oklahoma and developed several residential communities, the largest of which was Golden Oaks in the Sapulpa/Jenks area in 1976. He also ventured into ranching, oil and gas, heavy equipment and even racehorses. Charles never missed a chance to pursue a new endeavor, embracing each with enthusiasm.

Beyond his professional life, he was a devoted father and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He was never short on advice and was always ready to lend his perspective, offered with a mix of honesty and wisdom. He enjoyed time spent with those he loved, being out on his ranch in Arkansas, and watching his racehorses run, often joking that he had the next Derby winner. To him, relaxation meant climbing on a bulldozer to work the land or scouting out a new piece of property. His friends and family fondly teased that he never truly knew how to sit still, and in many ways that restless drive, which was so uniquely him is what made him so successful

While Charles endured some challenging times as a young man, he rose above. They don't make them like him anymore. He was old school in the best sense of the word – steady, hardworking and guided by a quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity, resilience and love that will never be forgotten. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Shana Thomas and her husband, Scott, his son Duane Golden and wife Michelle, his beloved grandchildren Bryan Thomas, Jenna Voss and her husband Brady, Macie Golden and Cable Golden.  He is also survived by his niece Kay Golden and nephew Mike Freeman and his wife Flo along with countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Fannie Golden, his sisters Norma Jean Golden and Dovie Freeman and brothers Walter and John Golden Jr.

Charles's service will be held at First Christian Church in Sapulpa on April 2, 2026, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Oklahoma Project Woman in Charles's memory.
