Obituary

Cherry Merritt passed from this world at the age of 96 on February 13, 2026 at her home in the company of her granddaughter, caregiver, and name sake, Cherry Fargo.

Ms. Cherry Merritt was born on October 30,1929 in San Joaquin County Hospital in Stockton, Califomia to Ivan and Ruth Merritt. Raised during the Great Depression, she married young and gave birth to all three of her children by the time she tuned 20.

After her children were old enough to go to school she began a career in dentistry, working as a dental assistant and office manager. Later, she owned a Kawasaki Motorcycle shop before embarking on a career in credit auditing for Gensler Lee Diamonds. Throughout her life she was also very proud to be a sales representative for Fuller Brush products.

Cherry was always dedicated to her family and their needs and spent many of her years helping raise several of her grandchildren.

In her golden years she was most commonly known as Granny. It was also in this season of life that she met her greatest love, Claude, and spent 15 years with him in Ridgecrest, California. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and many a game of dominoes. She loved his family as her own and maintained friendships with them even after he was gone.

After the passing of Claude in April of 2020 and then the passing of her daughter Elaine in November of 2020, she relocated to Sapulpa, Oklahoma where she lived out the rest of her years making friends and teaching them all how to play dominoes. Granny was loved by everyone who met her, even if she repeatedly beat them in the domino matches that were a part of her daily life.

She was preceded in death by her loving companion, Claude Wood, all of her siblings, Gene, Earl, Donna and Lois, her daughter Elaine Heenan, her son Steve Wynn, and three of her grandchildren, Steven Jay Wynn, Adam Aldrich and Tammy Aldrich. She also outlived all of her life long friends. She is survived by her son Frank Wynn and his wife Kathleen, her grandchildren Cherry Fargo, Ron Ashen, Brian Wynn and Robin Stewart, by fourteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives, loved ones, and friends.
