Obituary

Danny "Dan" Miller, 76, of Sapulpa, passed from this life Wednesday, December 4, 2019. He was born November 25, 1943 to George H and Bonnie L. Miller.

Immediately after graduate from Will Rogers High School, Dan joined the United States Navy where he was based in Guam and was assigned aboard the USS Estes. He was fascinated with the Guam culture and its people, and since he was interested in photography, he took many striking photos of the Guam people and the surrounding area.

When Karen and Dan met, Dan was involved in the Sand Springs Roundup Club. He enjoyed rodeoing with his beloved Quarter horse Casper. It didn't take long before Karen was a converted horsewoman. In the summer of 1991 Dan and Karen decided to be married on November 23 at the Shangri La resort on Grand Lake. Dan failed to remember that was also opening day of deer season. Consequently, all the male members of the wedding party commented "Miller what were you thinking"? Dan, being determined to marry Karen and make sure his friends didn't miss opening day, asked Karen if it would be possible for them to be married by proxy. The following Thursday after the wedding was Thanksgiving, so Dan prepared, from scratch, the Thanksgiving spread for the entire wedding party.

Dan and Karen decided to fulfill their dream of having a country home and acreage complete with their horses and dogs. After his love of horses was his passion for Doberman Pinchers so their household was teaming with Dobermans and an assortment of Terrier breeds. It's not surprising that their queen size bed could barely contain them and their 3 Dobermans, while the Terriers snoozed on the floor.

Dan had multiple interests and hobbies, including competitive bass fishing, dirt biking, bull dogging as well as being an avid hunter and accomplished horseman. He also built a hunting cabin for he and his hunting buddies on his 144 acres at Peggs, OK.

Dan was in his element in the country. He thoroughly enjoyed caring for his horses, fishing out of his pond, building his own fences, working the land and seeing the beautiful sunsets.

Dan retired in 2010 from JM Eagle Company. After retirement, he became interested in knife blading. He built his own forge and turned out an amazing variety of splendid knives.

Dan was a very private person who did not like to call attention to himself nor like a lot of fan fair. Upon his passing, he would want to be remembered by his family and friends as a "simple man with simple pleasures".
