Obituary

A man who marched to the beat of his own drum, Dennis Talley (68) of Fuquay-Varina stared down an incurable disease with dignity and optimism, passing away on March 13, 2022.  Born in Bluefield, WV to Elizabeth and Graham, he ultimately pursued a career in North Carolina, retiring from Thyssenkrup AG after 31 years of service. Those who knew him recognize that he was a man of action and happy to demur when the situation called for it. He set an example for his two children who count their experiences growing up as central to molding them into the people they are today.  An accomplished and avid woodworker, he was most proud of the hardwood floors he installed in his home.  His friends will miss swing dancing with him, joining him for live music, helping him become a better photographer, and challenging him at pickleball. He was especially grateful to his brother, David who tirelessly served him the final year of his life allowing him to continue to live independently in his home while he sought treatment.

He leaves behind two children, Brad and David; their spouses Robin and Julia; three grandchildren, Morgan, Carson, and Kate; a brother David and sister-in-law Betsy; their own children Amanda and Eric; and their extended families.

A celebration of life is scheduled from 2-4 pm on Thursday March 24th at the event space at Aviator Smokehouse Restaurant in Fuquay Varina. A private interment will follow later in the week.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center.
