IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Ray
Wood
November 10, 1941 – September 2, 2021
Donald Ray Wood was born on November 10, 1941 to Raymond and Lucy Wood and left this world for his heavenly home on Thursday, September 2, 2021 which was 27 years to the day after his dad passed away. Don is survived by his three children, Randy Wood and his wife Jo, Shelli Wood Snelson and her husband David, and Tanner Wood; his grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his sister Gayle Widick and her husband Donnie. Don also had many other kids and grandkids that adopted him over the years including Sam Kidwell and Kym Cops. He was preceded in death by his parents and both of his brothers, Ed Wood and Larry Wood.
Don grew up in Slick, Oklahoma. Throughout his years as a deputy sheriff, process server, bailbondsman and investigator for the state he traveled all over Oklahoma, but always made his home in Slick. From a young age he and his brothers enjoyed raising and riding horses. He never got too old to cowboy. In fact, when he fell and broke his collarbone, he told the doctor at the hospital that he had fallen off of a horse. Randy thought he was going to have to explain to adult protective services why Don had been on a horse when he could barely walk on his own. If he did admit that he had not been riding lately, he would blame it on Shelli and say it was only because she wouldn't let him. Just days before he passed he was at the arena watching Tanner's little girl Kennedy ride. He loved horses, but he loved his family more. Most importantly Don loved Jesus. Even near the end of his life when he would have trouble remembering names or what year it really was, he could sing gospel hymns and never miss a beat. He also kept his sense of humor until the very end. While calling Felicia grouchy and Shelli bossy, he was asked what name he would call Barb. He immediately said he knew better than to say anything like that to Barb. When talking on the phone to his granddaughters he always started with "Hello GrandDaughter", and ended it with an "I Love You", but when asked which one it was he would always say Baylee, so the other girls would jokingly say no Grandpa it's not the favorite.
Although we are sad, we know that Don has now taken his final ride here on earth, and is riding the trails in heaven.
Don's family would like to say a special thank you to Sterling Cole and Barbara Montgomery for the amazing love and care that you showed to him over the last several years. You all were a true blessing to him and to our family. We also appreciate the constant care and comfort that Felicia Jones and his granddaughter Baylee gave him over the last 48 hours of his life.
The family has decided to have a private celebration of life at a later date to honor Don and his brother, Larry who passed away just days before him.
Arrangements are under the direction of Traditions Funeral and Cremation Services, 35 S. Main, Kellyville, Oklahoma, 918-247-7373.
