IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary Don
Leatherwood
June 20, 1958 – September 15, 2025
Gary Don Leatherwood, 67, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born June 20, 1958, in Midland, Texas, to Don and Sherlene Leatherwood, Gary's life was defined by faith, service, and dedication to those he loved. At just 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving with honor as a radioman aboard fast attack and nuclear submarines based out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. His patrols across the Pacific Ocean reflected his deep commitment to his country and fellow servicemen.
Following his naval service, Gary devoted himself to mastering his trade as a master craftsman, working on projects across the nation in places like Nashville, Tennessee. Seattle, Washington; Nome, Alaska; Dallas, Texas; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. His skill, precision, and work ethic earned him the respect of all who worked alongside him. After more than 25 years in construction, Gary transitioned to a new career as a professional truck driver, ultimately retiring from Saia LTL Freight.
In retirement, Gary's heart shone brightest in his devotion to family. He lovingly cared for his partner of more than two decades, Pamela J. Ruggles, offering unwavering support and compassion, especially during the past six years as she faced health challenges.
His free time was filled with the simple pleasures he cherished-watching football and golf, talking politics, fishing, target practice at the gun range, smacking a few golf balls at the driving range, shooting pool, and, above all, enjoying precious moments with his children and grandchildren.
Gary will be remembered as a man of principle-unyielding in his convictions of right and wrong-yet also deeply kind, honest, hardworking, and devoted. His presence was both steady and loving, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those blessed to know him.
He is survived by his children: daughter Kristina of Lake Dallas, Texas, and son Michael and wife Raebecca of Tulsa, Oklahoma; as well as his cherished grandchildren Kamryn, Jazlyn, Mason, Cailyn, Aleigha, Joaquin, and Michael Lee. He is also survived by his brothers Larry (Karen) of Boerne, Texas, and Steve (Theresa) of Seven Points, Texas; his sister Claudia of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; and a large extended family of cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Sherlene; sisters Margie and Donna; and his beloved aunts Gerlene and Bonnie.
A memorial service celebrating Gary's life will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Traditions Funeral Home Chapel, 35 S. Main Street, Kellyville, Oklahoma.
Arrangements are under the care of Traditions Funeral and Cremation Services (918-247-7373).
