IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary "Joe"
Palmer
June 16, 1947 – October 20, 2023
Gary Joe Palmer, age 76, died at home October 20, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Myrna, and two sons, Ben (Sherry) and Brett (Melanie), as well as six grandchildren: Gabriel, Abigail, Nyal, Orin, Camden, and Louis. He also leaves behind his three brothers: Mark (Kari), Matt (Cherrie), and Scott (Teresa), in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Betty, as well as an infant sister.
Joe was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in the Vietnam War, and retired with the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he earned many honors, among them, a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, a Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and a Purple Heart.
Joe's experience in the Marines played an integral role in how he chose to live his life and gave him a desire to serve his country and its people. This led him to a career in Law Enforcement, first working for the Tahlequah Police Department, and then as an officer for the City of Tulsa Police Department. Joe was well liked and respected by his many coworkers and loved by the citizens in the districts he served.
Upon reaching retirement, Joe spent countless hours golfing, bowling, and working his land. He was passionate about planting and maintaining a beautiful property, and could regularly be found on his tractor, or with a beloved dog at his side.
The Marine motto, Semper Fidelis, meaning 'always faithful', speaks volumes over how Joe lived his life. Truer still are the words, "Once a Marine, always a Marine". And with those ideals, and simple and honest words, you always knew where you stood with Joe. He lived his life as a man of faith, country, honesty, integrity, and love.
And while his Military service set him on his career path, his core was his faith in Jesus Christ, and his love for family. His devotion to his heavenly father was evident to anyone who met him. And while his loved ones cling to each other for comfort and support, they know that Joe is standing on streets of gold. He is watching over all of us, awaiting the time we will all be reunited.
In lieu of flowers, Joe would appreciate sharing the good news of the Gospel, by supporting the organization Gideons International.
