Eulogy of Gerald Alan Hight
10/11/2020
"We're gathered here today to honor a man who spent his life in 'significant servitude' to others during his eighty-four years. We're here to celebrate in his early years as an innovator and a thought provoker, and specifically in his later years as a husband to Joann and a father to four children, Daddy to some, not his own, but whom he treated as his own. Gerald Alan Hight was one of the strongest, most honorable, and sincere men we have ever known.
Self-reliant from his early years, he had goals of business success that focused on the betterment of the lives for the masses, and that he DID accomplished with very little fanfare; creating efficiencies throughout business processes, decreasing costs of medication for all; and reducing price gouging through fair market product pricing programs…..and so many more.
On a personal level, he took personal pride in his unwavering loyalty to one woman, Joann, whom he loved for 56 years.
Another point of his pride was to help influence self-reliant, productive children.
Living alone during high school Jerry took a job and began saving for college. He put himself through UCLA where he graduated with honors and while playing basketball.  Jerry joined the Air Force and served through the reserve where he retired as a Major/General. Jerry had one job, Sav-on Drugs. The aim was to help the Calls and Browns build an empire. That he did faithfully and well.
Jerry took his responsibilities seriously, in business, in marriage, and in fatherhood, literally spending his waking hours working on how to improve, make better, the plight of man. A quietly faithful man, always doing the right thing (from his perspective) treating others with the respect they were due, doing 'what God would do".
Jerry, Dad to most of us, was a man of constant learning and wonder. Studying today's trends and current events, always ready to offer an informed and educated perspective to almost any topic when engaged to do so.
Dad was a private man rarely complaining to others about his personal situation … Well, maybe he shared more with Mom, but we do not know that. A great example in the way he passed…..obviously from some type of cancer. To my knowledge he shared that information with no one other than his doctor, to spare the family the worry of him. Another example is well…. whatever it is we will learn he has been up to in preparation of this day….and you know there will be discoveries. 😊
The things Jerry taught us will, in every way, live on through us and transfer to others we touch. His just wisdom, his strength, the courage in which he taught us each to forge ahead despite the opposition's opinion will continue to reverberate throughout our circle of influences well into future generations….and he knew that as we discussed it many times.
If Dad were here today, he would critique this writing, questioning its every sentence and the true meaning or validity of each statement. He would want it to be correct, true, and heartfelt…… exactly the way he lived his life to the very end.
I now invite any other member of the family who would like to their words with us to do so at this time…………….
Please bow your heads for a prayer:
"Incline thine ear, O Lord, unto our prayers, wherein we humbly pray thee to show thy mercy upon the soul of thy servant, whom thou hast commanded to pass out of this world, that thou wouldst place him in the region of peace and light and bid him be a partaker with thy saints. Through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Dad, you will be missed greatly. I know that your presence will always be with us. Thank you for being such an incredible role model and for loving us unconditionally. We hope that we have all made you proud.
Remain for a 21 gun salute carried out by his beloved family in honor of the life of Gerald Alan Hight.
