J.D. Lester 89 of Sapulpa stepped into heaven on October 7, 2023. J.D. was born September 24, 1934, to Herbert and Cenia Lester in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. He attended school at Bethel in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was employed by Sheffield Steel as a millwright and retired after 31 years at the age of 51.
J.D. met and married the love of his life Betty Coker December 24, 1954. They would have celebrated 69 years of marriage in December. He attended Olivet Baptist Church in Sand Springs until he was no longer able.
J.D. had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing specials in church for years, accompanied by his son-in-law Gary.
He enjoyed vacationing with Betty all over the United States and Canada. Their favorite vacation spot was Buena Vista, Colorado.
J.D. was a bighearted man, always giving and always ready to help a neighbor in need. He enjoyed feeding the fish in his pond. He and the grandkids would fish, but always put them back in the pond for the next time. He enjoyed watching the deer, making sure they had plenty of corn so they would return. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Betty; daughters Pam McGuire and husband Gary, Brenda Wood and son-in-law Mark Wood; grandchildren Brandon McGuire and wife Jackie, Brandi Ennis and husband Jeremy, Emily Oldham and husband Luke and Joshua Wood and wife Courtney; great-grandchildren Logan McGuire and wife Aaliyah, Kaden, Rylan, Grayson and Selah McGuire and Autumn Bradley and husband Tristan, Jonah and River Ennis, Jacob and Dason Wood and Ruby Oldham; great-great-grandchildren Finley, Ezekial and Luke Bradley; brothers Leroy and wife Mary, Floyd and wife Janell, and Ralph; sister Ida Licklider and husband David; a very special friend and loving caregiver Lori Harris, she took such great care of mom and dad, we love you Lori; and a host of relatives and friends.
J.D. is preceded in death by parents Herbert and Cenia; great-grandchildren Hadley Wood and Jordan Ennis.
Services will be 11am, Friday, October 13, 2023, at Westside Freewill Baptist Church in Sapulpa. Arrangements are under the direction of Traditions Funeral and Cremation Services, 35 S. Main, Kellyville, OK, 918-247-7373.
