Joe Wesley Watashe, age 73, of Kiefer Oklahoma went to be with our Lord on September 4, 2020. He was born March 12,1947 at Claremore Indian Hospital.
He graduated from Kellyville High School in 1965. Upon his graduation he attended Northeastern State University. Joe enjoyed sports and was on the baseball team in high school. He heard the call to serve and joined the United States Marines and served for 15 years, including 2 tours in Vietnam. Joe loved his country and proudly served.
Joe also loved his Euchee heritage attending as much as he could at all functions and was an active member of the Sapulpa Indian Community. He was also a member of the Polecat Ceremonial grounds in Kellyville Oklahoma and was in the Honor Guard for Creek Nation. Joe was a diehard OU fan and Kansas City Chief fan. In his younger years he loved to play golf and slow pitch softball. One of his favorite places to eat was Café USA where he really liked to eat and meet his friends. He enjoyed dancing, being around people, going church and singing and hearing the Creek songs.
He is survived by his best friend Vicki Tate of Mounds; three daughters Shannon Watashe McCully of Oakhurst, Kelley Watashe Parker of Kellyville and Tamara Watashe of Sapulpa; grandson Josiah Watashe of the home; two brothers Charles Watashe of Sapulpa and Allen Watashe of Sapulpa; six sisters Cynthia Fox of Glenpool, Jessie Watashe of Sapulpa, Sharon Lee of Tulsa, Patricia Dunn of Mannford, Debra Watashe of Sapulpa and Brenda Mills of Okmulgee and a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and his door was always open to anyone.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Rhoda Watashe; parents Jesse and Annie Watashe; daughter Mary Watashe; sisters Beverly Watashe and Rita Watashe; nephew Bryan Watashe sister-in-law Janice Watashe; niece Tara Haikey and great-niece Joan Hogue Rosson.
Wake services will be 7:00pm, Monday, September 7, 2020 at Dripping Springs Baptist Church, 24543 W. Hwy. 33, Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Services will be 10:00am, Tuesday, September 8, 2020 also at Dripping Springs Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Traditions Funeral and Cremation Services, 35 S. Main, Kellyville, Oklahoma, 918-247-7373.
