John Richard
Nicholson
Feb 10, 1945 — Jun 30, 2026
Kellyville
John Richard Nicholson, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026 with his wife Betty by his side.
John proudly served his country for 17 years in the United States Navy, completing five tours of duty as a First Class Quarter Master. Between his military services he served for a time as a California police officer.
He found great joy in the outdoors and connected to the world in his own way. Some of his happiest moments were spent in the RV with Betty, salmon fishing on the Rogue River in Oregon, taking in the beauty of Crater Lake and enjoying the scenery of the Great Smokey Mountains. Those who knew him understood that he had a deep affection for his many dogs over the years. Casey, Maynard, Stormy and Thunder were always companions and their well being was his highest of priorities. He loved telling jokes and cherished the friendships within his church family and worshipping his Lord and Savior.
In recent years, as John faced the challenges of many heath issues, Betty remained faithfully by his side, providing him with constant love, attentive care and steadfast support. Her devotion was a true reflection of the vows they shared.
John is preceded in death by his parents George and Doris Nicholson of California, his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Blair Hornberger of Kellyville.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Betty, of Kellyville; his brother Dan Nicholson and wife Trish of California; sister Mary Monaco and husband Bruce of Cape Cod; extended family in Oregan and California, stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
May he rest in fair winds and following seas.
