Obituary

Maxine Crawford Carter was born March 28, 1930, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to Earl R. Crawford and Pearl (Fowler) Crawford. She was born in the historic St. James Hotel, where her family lived and where her father worked as a clerk.

Maxine married Bill Carter on October 15, 1948, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2008. She was also preceded in death by their only child, Sheila Sue, on April 20, 2017; her parents, Earl R. and Pearl Crawford; one brother, George Murel May; one infant brother, Earl R. Crawford, Jr.; and her niece, Lisa Kelin Eshelman.

Maxine graduated from Sapulpa High School and later retired as a legal secretary. She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, visiting all fifty states, Canada multiple times, as well as Mexico, the Bahamas, and the Virgin Islands.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Fumie May of Glenpool; nieces, June May Harp of Sapulpa and Teri May Rogers of Miami; six great-nieces; two great-nephews; and one cousin, Delores Jean Philpott of Waskom, Texas.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Green Hill Cemetery in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Traditions Funeral and Cremation Services, 35 S. Main Street, Kellyville, Oklahoma, 74039, (918) 247-7373.
