Melvin Leroy Maroon (Leroy) 74, stepped into Heaven on January 16, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Leroy was born August 31, 1947, in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Melvin and Carmoleda Maroon. He graduated from Bristow High School in 1965, lettering in wrestling and golf.
Leroy met the love of his life Barbara Peters on New Year's Eve 1966. The two were joined in marriage June 30, 1967. From this union two children were born, Kimberly Maroon of Bristow and Steven Maroon and wife Paula also of Bristow.
Leroy was employed by Gates Lear Jet in Wichita, Kansas for eleven years. After that he moved his family to Oklahoma where he was employed by Halliburton Oil Services for over twenty-five years. After that he continued to work in the oil field industry until 2005. While working in the oil industry he also got to travel the world, earning forty-three different countries stamps on his passport.
Leroy loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing, hunting, and camping. He especially loved trout fishing at Roaring River in Missouri, a love that he passed on to his family. He also had a passion for horses and enjoyed showing Quarter Horses, trail rides and cattle drives. Later in life he discovered he had a talent for making jellies and pickles which will be missed by many. He also loved football and faithfully cheered for the Sooners.
Leroy is survived by his wife Barbara Peters Maroon of the home; daughter Kimberly Maroon; son Steven Maroon and wife Paula; grandchildren Jeremy Hicks, Kamryn Hicks, Drew Tate, Tyler Maroon, Taylor Maroon Whittington, Trey Maroon, Bryce Bridges, Nic Griffith and Zack Teasel; great-grandchildren Summer Ratliff, Ethan Whittington, Salem George and Delilha Whittington; siblings Anita Maroon VanDeWeghe and husband Ted and Tommy Maroon and wife Tammy and a host of other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Carmoleda Maroon.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Traditions Funeral Chapel in Kellyville. Services will be 11:00am, Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Faith Baptist Church in Slick. Arrangements are under the direction of Traditions Funeral and Cremation Services, 35 S. Main, Kellyville, 918-247-7373.
There will be a time for sharing a favorite story or memory of Leroy during the service.
