Obituary

Ralph Leon Bernal, Jr.

On April 14, 2026, we said goodbye to a remarkable man, Ralph Leon Bernal, Jr. born January 31, 1958, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ralph was a man of many talents and interests, but above all, he loved spending time with his one and only grand-daughter, Allie Marshall and his one and only grand-son, Oakley Thomas Brumley.

In his lifetime, Ralph had a myriad of achievements. As a young teen, Ralph taught himself to play the drums and guitar. He would later become a professional drummer, playing with several bands. And the same hands that tuned drums and played guitar also maintained facilities at the Montereau Retirement Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ralph began his employment with Montereau in 2007 as a carpenter, painter and in-house maintenance. What brought him most joy were the relationships he made, his service and the willingness to always help others. Amy and Ralph met during a lunch break at which time she walked in and Ralph was reading his bible. Amy says she knew at that moment he was the one for her.

Ralph was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, an incurable blood cancer in 2015. Treatment involved chemotherapy, stem cell transplants and targeted therapies all to relieve severe pain, fatigue and infection. His chemo sessions were weekly for 11 years and he animatedly refused any type of pain medication. Not once did anyone ever hear him complain. His love for life and his determination to be with his family for as long as possible gave him the will to live. He was truly a man of many talents and great strengths.

Ralph was a resident of the Tulsa area until he married the love of his life, Amy Kragel, in May 2011. It was at this time Ralph became a full-fledge Sapulpan and the best brother-in law Tammi Golden could possibly have. Ralph is the son of the late Ralph Bernal, Sr.

He is proceeded in death by his mother, Marie Sparks, stepfather, Jerry Basford, and brother, Kevin Basford.

Ralph leaves behind his wife, Amy Bernal; stepdaughter, Megan Brumley (Clyde Brumley); stepson, Wyatt Daniels; grand-daughter, Allie Marshall; grand-son, Oakley Brumley; sister, Tracy Watkins; sister, Teresa Scopeletti; Aunt Roberta Koger and Koger Family in Parsons, Kansas; niece, Jennifer Alchamat , and husband Zico; nephew, Derek Childers. Mother and father-in-law, Greg and Judy Kragel; brother-in-law and sister in-law, Thomas Madill & Tammi Golden; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darin & Dusty Kragel. Ralph leaves behind a large group of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Ralph loved his Montereau family.

He never met a stranger and to know him was to love him. His passion was his faith, his family, his music and his carpentry and he’s going to be greatly missed.
