Richard Franklin Hughes (92) of Sapulpa passed from this life on January 14, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
Richard was born December 22nd, 1931, in Sapulpa to Aaron and Roma Hughes. He graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1951. Richard served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, where he served as member of the military police.
He was employed by BF Goodrich as a salesman for 25 years. He went on to work at Bingman Chevrolet until he purchased his own car lot in 1982 on the corner of Main and Lee in Sapulpa. He retired from selling cars in 1996. For 40 years, He never worked more than 4 blocks from home.
Richard met and later married Anna Louise Carson on December 19th, 1953. They were married for 60 years.
Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with family. Anytime you visited Richard, he we going to show you his tomato plants that he was always so proud of.
He had a caring and compassionate heart. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by children; Nancy Hughes Gotcher and husband Marty Gotcher, Roger Hughes and wife Shawna Hughes, Grandchildren; Travis Ross, Kyle Hughes and fiancé Brittany, Justin Ross, Hannah Birdwhistell and husband Nate Birdwhistell and Brayden Hughes. Great grandchildren; Hailey Birdwhistell, Kelsey Birdwhistell and Harper Birdwhistell and many special nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Aaron Hubert and Roma Hughes, his loving wife of 60 years, Anna Louise Hughes, Son; Richard Dale Hughes, Sisters; Noma Jean Romine, Eileen Hughes, Brothers; Jackie Dean Hughes, Hubert (Dubin) Hughes, Earl Leroy Hughes, Nephews; Richard Allen Hughes, and Hubert Floyd Romine.
Special thanks to Complete OK Hospice and caregivers; Tennie, Misty, Barbara, Crocia and Tone.
Services will be Thursday, January 18th at 2:00pm at Traditions Funeral Chapel in Kellyville, OK with graveside service following at Green Hill Memorial Gardens in Sapulpa, OK. Bearers will be Kenny Ashford, Wayne Williams, Roger Dale Butler and Robert Hughes. Honorary Bearers will be Darrell Stockton, Mike Hughes, Darrell Wilson; JE Williams and Bob Henshaw.
Family visitation will be Wednesday, January 17th from 6:00-8:00 at Traditions Funeral Home in Kellyville, OK.
