Obituary

Richard Wayne (Dickie) Toliver , 82, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, peacefully left this world behind and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Dickie was born on June 25, 1943, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, to Tom and Walcie Toliver. He graduated from Sapulpa High School and on April 30, 1965, married the love of his life, Gwen Cossey. Soon after, he began working at North American Rockwell, where he proudly contributed to producing parts for the Apollo program that successfully landed on the moon. Later, Dickie owned and operated Acme Cabinets and Trim until 2006. He then worked in the family business, Better Built Structures as a driver, manager and dispatcher until 2024.

His faith in Jesus Christ was his most treasured possession, followed closely by his deep love for his family. Dickie often said that "Thank you" seemed so small for all that God had done in his life. He considered himself a blessed man who had been given far more than he deserved and remained forever grateful to the Lord for His abundant blessings. In 1973, Dickie joined a few other faithful men to found Bethany Holiness Church, starting in his own garage. He was a devoted member of Bethany, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and bass player. He was an incredible supporter of the gospel, the church leadership, and the youth. Dickie frequently said there were no better people on earth than those at Bethany, and he showed his love and devotion by encouraging each one with genuine care and affection.

Dickie loved hunting, fishing, spending time in the barn and on his tractor, and—most of all—being with his family. His granddaughter recently shared, "The saying is, to know him is to love him. Although this is true of Papaw, it is more accurate to say, to know him is to be loved."

He loved
He was loud
He was emotional
He was courageous
He was strong and mighty
He was a protector
He was larger than life
He was a friend
He was expressive
He was an encourager
He was giving
He was an involved grandparent
He was an affectionate man
He gave his all to his family
He was a light for the Lord…until his last breath.

Dickie is survived by his children, Lisa Patterson (Tony) and Darin Toliver (Narissa); his grandchildren, Benjamin Patterson (Kelsi), Lorenda Goodman (Benjamin), Trevor Toliver (Sara), and Courtney Guthrie (Ansley); his great-grandchildren, Hadley, Tatum, Haven, Talon, Acre, Jack, and Ivy; his sister, Marilyn Gilbert (Paul); and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gwen; his parents, Tom and Walcie Toliver; his brothers, Tommy Toliver and Jim Toliver; his sister, Carolyn Crawford; and his great-grandson, Athens Jordan Guthrie.

Dickie lived a full life marked by faith, family, hard work, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a devoted servant of the Lord and a beloved Papaw whose legacy of love continues to shine brightly.
