Obituary for Sammie Charles Revis
Sammie Charles Revis, 72, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, surrounded by his children and grandchildren in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
Sam was born in Claremore, Oklahoma, to Ann Florene Holder and Sammy Berryhill. Sam lived his life by his core values of education & knowledge, adventure & travel, and family first. He attended Jones Academy at a young age with his siblings where he was known by his family as "Buster". He graduated from Hartshorne High School. Before graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His early interest in protecting and serving others began at Jones Academy, where he served as a hall monitor—an early sign of what would become a lifelong commitment to public safety.
Sam went on to build a long career in law enforcement. He worked as a police officer for the Glenpool Police Department, the Tulsa Airport Police, and Lighthorse Tribal Police officer for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. He later served as a security officer and was known for his tours of the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial. He took pride in every role he held and carried a strong sense of responsibility throughout his career.
He loved sharing his work experiences with his family. Whether talking about his time in law enforcement or his various security roles, Sam enjoyed giving them a closer look at his world. He was especially known for offering private, behind-the-scenes tours of the Tulsa Zoo—something his children, nieces and nephews remember as a special part of their time with him.
His devotion to service extended to the military as well. Over his lifetime, Sam served in the United States Marine Corps, the Army, and the National Guard. He served as a radio operator and was attending Military Police training in Washington, D.C., when he met his wife, Shelia, who was also serving as a Marine.
Sam enjoyed sharing his military experiences with his family. His children remember long car rides filled with cadence tapes, military stories, and memories of Jones Academy. At the dinner table, he was known to play "chow time" while serving mashed potatoes and talking about KP duty—small moments that became lasting family memories.
Though known for his quick wit, sometimes dark humor, and disciplined nature, Sam also had a quieter, thoughtful side. He wrote poetry, especially for his wife, and valued learning throughout his life. He remained curious and open to understanding new things, always seeking knowledge and reflection.
Sam believed strongly in freedom, education, and family. He viewed education as the path to independence and encouraged his children to pursue learning with purpose. He enjoyed traveling and appreciated the opportunities he had to see the world during his military service.
Sam's greatest pride was his family. When he married Shelia and they began a family, it was an experience that he was unprepared for. She traveled along side him, and endured every new whim that crossed his mind. When she was diagnosed with cancer, his method of care was to continue to take her to new experiences and to drive around in adventures. He had a simple routine to make sure he called his children and grandchildren every day. He ended every conversation with "love you, bye-bye," a simple gesture that showed his steady love and presence in their lives.
He is survived by his three children—Robert Revis, Tracie Revis, and Joseph Revis—and by his daughter-in-law, Linda Revis. He was a grandfather to five grandchildren: Alex Desruisseau, Amber Desruisseau, Miles Revis, Nicholas Revis, and Lia Revis; and great-granddaughter Winter Desruisseau.
After the birth of his grandchildren, Sam found a new audience for his stories, lessons, and the memories he held close. He spent the last fifteen years of his life appreciating the chance to share those pieces of his life with a new generation, and he took great pride in watching his family legacy continue through them.
Sam is preceded in death by his mother, Ann Holder; his father, Sam Berryhill; his brothers, Robert Lee and Gerald "Hvtke" Scott; and his sister, Marie Revis. He is survived by his sister Faith Revis and his brothers Harley Revis, Lester Revis, and Eddie Dale, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sam Revis will be remembered as a man committed to service, learning, discipline, and family. His legacy lives on through the values he taught, the guidance he gave, and the love he showed to those around him.
