IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sara Ann
Campbell
December 12, 1939 – December 23, 2021
On December 23, 2021, Sara Ann Whittenton Campbell was escorted through Heaven's gates at the age of 82.
Blessed by God's impeccable timing, she had just celebrated a Surprise Birthday Party with her family, a Christmas Party with her church family, and enjoyed a wonderful Sapulpa High School Class of 1957 breakfast reunion with cherished friends.
Sara was born and grew up in Sapulpa, the daughter of a Railroad Man, Jack Whittenton. Her mother, Vivian Chapman Whittenton, was cherished by Sara and she spent her last years on earth, living in the Campbell home, being cared for by her daughter's nurturing. Sara was the second-born of her three siblings: Jim Whittenton, Leslie Tanner, and Kim Whittenton, and the final survivor of all.
Sara was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, and Dripping Springs Baptist Church, where she volunteered in the kitchen. She developed lifelong friendships with Claudia Blodgett, Patsy Reed, and Ms. Mariam. She was a member of SouthPark Bible Church until her death. As she matured in years, she also matured spiritually. She was a very serious student of studying the Bible from the original languages of scripture and rarely missed a class. She trusted and relied on God's word for all stability and all praise. During her years at SouthPark, Dave and Sara developed a very deep friendship with Pastor RK Lyon and his wife Evelyn, rooted and grounded in Bible Doctrine.
She met her husband, David Campbell, at Sapulpa High School and married him after his service with the United States Navy was complete. They were married 58 years, until his death in 2020. She never stopped missing him, and they are definitely reunited in Heaven, having a wonderful time!
She worked in banking until she had children and made the decision to be a Stay-At-Home-Mother and Homemaker. She loved her son, Scott, and her daughter, Becky, with all her heart. As her children entered adulthood, Sara also loved her Daughter-In-Law, Michelle, and her Son-In-Law, Jeff, like her very own. She adored her grandkids and spoiled them rotten, like all good Grandmothers do! Our family morphed into one big, loving unit because Sara loved everyone, "whether by blood or by marrying-in." She grew especially close to Geri Fenger, Juanita Miller and Helen Downs.
Sara was a consistently happy person, always cheerful and encouraging to her family and her friends. She kept an immaculate home, with KVOO always playing in the background. She had a hot meal on the table every night and greeted every one that walked through the door with an enthusiastic greeting; as she walked so quickly, it sounded as though she would drive her heels straight through the floor!
She was involved with the "ladies" of the Creek County Bow Hunters, was an "Assistant Den Mother" for Bluebirds with Louise Smith, was an Assistant Girls' Softball coach with Phyllis Elmore, and enjoyed participating in a Women's Bowling League at Sahoma Lanes.
Sara enjoyed many crafting adventures with Betty Whitehouse, as well as a hilarious trip to Las Vegas with the husbands. Sara kept trying to get Betty to "walk over there." Betty would gently point out that Sara was looking at a mirrored wall!
As her children aged into High School, Sara returned to work. She was employed by KFC, along with her neighbor and dear friend, Phyllis Elmore. They went, together, onto TG&Y and then Hillcrest, working in the Billing Department, until her retirement.
She was part of a gaggle of women that worked together, played together, and took several delightful trips together. She made many happy memories with them.
After retiring, she was able to travel with her husband. They enjoyed many adventures and spoke fondly of those special days together, just the two of them.
Her final years were her favorite. She loved living "out at the commune," a joke that turned into a lovingly playful nickname for the land and neighborhood where she resided with Dave. Her neighbors were her daughter, and her son; Mark and Sherri Day, Dustin and Brandi Johnson (and Jakey), Hank and Janet Johnson and Ricky and Debi Martin. She enjoyed many cookouts, parties and fellowships; and she loved each and every neighbor, delightfully so!
Sara is survived by her son Scott Campbell, and her Daughter-In-Law, Michelle Triplett; daughter, Becky Miller and Son-In-Law, Jeff Miller; her beloved grandchildren Joey Campbell (Andrea); Casey Campbell and wife Laura; Isaac Miller and wife Karla; and great-grandchildren Mason and George Campbell.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and two grandchildren: Jacob and Olivia Miller. Leaving earth two days before Christmas, she undeniably had a Christmas celebration that can only be dreamed about by those of us who remain…worshipping our Lord, reuniting with her loves and celebrating the comfort and beauty of Heaven!
A virtual memorial can be viewed below and on Traditions Facebook page.
Sara will be laid to rest in a private, family graveside gathering.
The family would like to express a heartfelt "Thank-you" to everyone who supported the Campbell/Millers through prayer, cards, food and errands. God bless you.
1 Thess. 4:17
"Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
Luke 10:27
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself.
