Obituary

Sidney Leroy Summers, (Sid), 68, of Bixby, Oklahoma, stepped into heaven peacefully on March 21, 2026, with his wife present at her home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Sid was born May 15, 1957, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Nathan Hale High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1975. He received his bachelor’s degree in Organic Chemistry from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1979.

Sid’s previous marriages produced three children: Dustin Summers (age 45), Will Summers (deceased at 6 months of age), and E. Wyatt Summers (age22). He met Deborah Brantly Hunt in January 2022, and they were married in January 2025.

He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. He enjoyed hunting quail, rabbit, squirrels, pheasants, as well as deer, elk, and his prize, a 400 lb black bear. He loved his trips to Colorado to fly fish and fish for bass.

Even though Sid graduated with an Organic Chemistry degree, his passion was carpentry. After college, he began framing houses. He enjoyed building things including bookcases, a canoe, and eventually houses. He built a cabin which still stands and is used on the family farm/hunting site. After working for several different companies building elderly HUD housing facilities, apartments, and individual houses, Sid ventured on his own, becoming a premier builder in the Tulsa area. His houses won the Parade of Homes, one of which was featured in the magazine Better Homes and Gardens.

Sid’s love of sports did not end after high school. He was an avid follower of college football, baseball, and softball, as well as Major League Baseball. He supported Wyatt’s baseball career by keeping score, grilling burgers, coaching, and building a baseball practice diamond with his own unique batting cage for the younger Bixby teams.

Sid learned to cook on an open fire from his grandad. He loved to cook for special events, including the Pinto Horse Club at the annual July 4th parade and the annual Christmas parade in Mounds, Oklahoma. While attending high school, he was involved in baseball, football, and motocross, which he funded by an early morning paper route and raising cattle. In addition to hunting game, he assisted with management relocation of deer to the family farm, assisted by game wardens of multiple counties.

He loved to make chili, burgers, homemade ice cream and cook campfire meals for his buddies at deer camp every year, and legend has it that he grilled the best burgers.

Gardening was another of his passions. He planted a garden several years in a row, growing tomatoes, peppers, and various other vegetables. He personally grafted Heirloom apple trees, giving some away to friends and family, and planted over 300 trees for “Will’s Orchard” in honor of his second son. He would plant various trees on his property and gave away trees to plant on friends’ and family’s properties as well. He enjoyed flowers and plants of all kinds.

Although Sid would describe himself as a rough country boy who loves country music, he had a tender heart. The things he did to assist others in their time of need would fill a small book, even though only a few knew anything about it.

Sid attended the Baptist Church as a teenager, going on mission trips with the youth group. However, most of his life he attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served as an usher and head of the Building and Grounds Committee. In his final years, he attended Beams of Light Church with his wife when he was able.

He is survived by his wife, Deb (and her children), his children, Dustin Summers and E. Wyatt Summers; his grandson George Summers; his brother, Clyde Summers; his sister, Kathy Crane and a whole list of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his son, William Summers and his parents, Rebecca and Charles Summers.

He will be greatly missed.

Service is Friday, March 27, 2026 at 10 AM at Beams of Light Church, 101 E. Murphy St, Sapulpa, OK. Pastor Mike Harris is officiating the service.
