Willis Charles "Buddy" Mathews, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, passed away on June 6, 2026. He was born on January 18, 1958, at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Billy Sam and Betty Mathews.

Buddy entered this world alongside his twin brother, Billy Sam Mathews Jr. ("Sammy"), arriving just a few minutes after his brother. He attended Eugene Field and Robertson Elementary Schools, Allen Bowden Middle School, and Sapulpa High School.

In 1976, Buddy proudly joined the United States Army and served his country while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, for two years.

Buddy was known for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and endless wisecracks. He could make people laugh with ease and always had something clever to say. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and throughout his life he never lost his love for fishing. He also had a special place in his heart for dogs and never passed up the chance to enjoy the company of a loyal four-legged friend.

Buddy was proceded in death by his parents, Billy Sam and Betty Mathews of Sapulpa; his twin brother, Billy Sam Mathews Jr. ("Sammy") of Tulsa; his nephew, Cody Fox of Sapulpa; and his brother-in-law, Randy Carnes of Sapulpa.

He leaves behind his daughter, Courtney Alese Mathews of Blue Springs, Mississippi; his three grandsons, Parker, Presley, and Brody; his sister, Jeanie Mathews Carnes of Sapulpa; his nephew, Bill Lee Mathews of Tulsa; his niece, Detra Cahwee McCall of Tulsa; and many other beloved nieces, nephews, family members, and close friends.

Buddy will be remembered for his humor, his love of fishing and dogs, and the laughter he brought to those around him. Though he is gone from this life, the memories he leaves behind and the love he shared with those closest to him will remain forever. 

There will be a memorial service at 2pm on Tuesday, June 23 at Cross Pointe Church, 450 E Speer Ave., Sapulpa, OK 74066.
